Breaking News! Tesla Energy Storage System Catches Fire!

According to reports, on December 28, 2024, a Tesla energy storage system caught fire in Tilburg, Netherlands. The fire occurred in a warehouse located in the Vossenberg industrial area on Asteriastraat. Firefighters employed an "immersion" firefighting method, using a container filled with water to submerge and cool the affected batteries in order to prevent the fire from reigniting.

Thanks to the successful activation of the built-in sprinkler system and the swift response from the fire department, the blaze was quickly controlled within an hour. A total of 50 employees were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with no further updates at this time.

Interestingly, just one day before the fire, on December 27, Tesla’s Shanghai Energy Storage Super Factory project successfully passed its completion inspection. Following the groundbreaking ceremony, Lingang Group also signed a contract with Tesla for the first batch of Megapacks in China, purchasing a total of 8 units. According to Deng Haoqiang, Deputy General Manager of Lingang Green Innovation Company, this batch of Megapacks will be primarily used for the Lingang IDC Data Center. Let’s hope that no issues arise with the energy storage systems domestically.

Previously, in September 2022, a Tesla Megapack energy storage battery operated by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in Monterey, California, also caught fire. Additionally, in July of the same year, a fire incident involving Tesla Megapack storage batteries occurred in Australia. This facility was once Australia's largest battery storage project, with a storage capacity of 300MW/450MWh, and each Megapack had a storage capacity of about 3MWh.
